Sports

Physical activity is essential for children’s health and well-being, and we know that children are more likely to stay active if they enjoy their experiences in school. That’s why we create a fun and supportive environment in all our PE lessons and sports clubs, ensuring every child participates and has a great time. But we also strive for excellence; our competitive sports teams have enjoyed success in local and borough-wide competitions.

Our youngest students engage in daily activities that develop their gross motor skills. Our playgrounds are equipped with apparatus that helps them build strength, balance, and coordination, and our skilled staff are there to guide and encourage them. As children progress through the school, they learn a variety of sports and skills, from gymnastics and dance to hockey and basketball. Pupils in Year 3 and Year 6 will complete swimming lessons at Stevenage Swimming Centre.

We offer a variety of sporting clubs to pupils, and these are run either by school staff or our external partners. In addition, once every half-term pupils have a PE experience lesson allowing them to try out a sport which is a little more unique and not part of our school PE curriculum. Sports that pupils may try include; fencing, archery, lacrosse, quidditch and many more.

At Ashtree Primary Academy, we believe in offering our pupils the opportunity to participate in competitive sports. As a part of our partnership with Stevenage Sporting Futures, we have access to a range of local competitions such as Cross Country, Rowing, Basketball, Sports Hall Athletics and many more.
In addition, pupils in Year 5/6 have the opportunity to join our mixed netball team, boys' football team and girls' football team.
